The centre has a close relationship with the local city farm, Surrey Docks Farm, and for a number of years has sponsored a Young Farmers Club there. The club is for local young people, aged 8 – 13, it is free to attend and provides an opportunity to undertake practical activities on a working city farm and gain life skills. Activities and opportunities fall under four main themes namely: animal care, environment, gardening and farm produce.
The Centre Management team assist the farm wherever possible and the Centre Manager has been involved in activities at the farm as diverse as building a cob-wall, bush craft skills and making willow hurdles.
An established annual event in the centre is an Easter Bonnet Parade involving St. John’s Roman Catholic Primary School when all of the pupils parade up and down the shopping mall displaying their bonnets which are based on a different theme each year. After the parade the Centre Management team then judge “the best bonnets” and prizes are awarded.
